Treatments - Fixed Braces

Fixed Braces are commonly called 'train track' braces. The teeth are pushed or pulled along a wire using elastic bands or springs. They glide along the wire using a bracket which is glued to the tooth.

    - HOW DO THEY WORK?

Brackets and bands are temporarily stuck to the teeth, and a flexible wire joins the brackets. They position the teeth very accurately into straight lines and a beautiful smile.

However, they require a great deal of time, expertise and good patient co-operation to be successful.

Stainless steel brackets are used for NHS treatment. If you are paying privately then you can choose to have tooth coloured brackets. When 'clear' brackets are chosen, we still use metal aligning wires, but overall the appliances are much less visable.

- ELASTICS

It may be necessary to attach elastic bands to the brace to help your teeth move. It is very important to wear the elastics as instructed. Co-operation is essential, as teeth won't move on their own!

- COLOURS

The wires are put in and tied to the brackets with tiny elastics. These are available in many different colours and can be changed during treatment if you wish.

- EATING SENSIBLY

You must eat sensibly whilst wearing a brace! Click here for more information on foods to avoid.
